We had a very mild winter except for the day we went to Westville, even though it was really spring it was the coldest day of the year! No one was prepared because we were expecting to be hot as usual! Then the big disappointment came, they did not get our biscuit order and could not serve us biscuits! Well, that's why we were there, right! Just when we thought the day was a total bust we realized we were there on a very special day! Westville was full of people in period costumes demonstrating life in the 1850's!
It was FANTASTIC!
This lady is showing us how she makes candles for lights and you can't see it but right beside her someone was showing us how to wash clothes. I am so sorry for complaining about my laundry!
We missed taking a picture of the best exhibit, the blacksmith making iron into hooks. I guess I was so interested I forgot to take a picture!
Kenna and Samantha are playing with toys for the period.
It's no iPad but they loved it.
They are listening to the defendant's testimony.
They were quick to judge. He did it! Guilty!
Making new friends...
They rode around the village behind this fella, yes the horse took frequent restroom breaks.
A free ride and lovely smells along the way.
Wish I'd lived back then!

Sam plowing a garden...
Dinner time!
Well, all good things must come to an end and it was time to go!
A few of the buildings were particularly interesting to me:
The Masonic lodge upstairs above the Academy freaked me out!
The Academy,
upstairs in the lodge.
I was loving the little village with no cars or TV's
until I saw the well in front of the town square!
No showers! That's a deal breaker!
This house has a shedroom for travelers. Because there were no hotels, homes had shedrooms for strangers to stay in overnight while they were passing through. They didn't even have to ask the people who lived there and the home owner kept the rooms ready for guest at all times.
Now that's hospitality! (And a little scary!)
